Hey guys, the second destination of our trip was Bangkok. What a city! I felt at home right away because it reminded me of certain parts of Hong Kong with the small food stands, traffic, people everywhere, the smell and the sounds. Bangkok is huge though so we only explored one neighborhood called Sukhumvit.
This area is shaped by Bangkok's longest street, Sukhumvit Road, and its sub streets, the many "sois". It's a mix of high-rise luxury hotels, modern malls, hip restaurants, bars and clubs as well as night markets, street kitchens and two major red light streets. It's easy to get around by tuk tuk, taxi or metro. Just make sure to get a feeling for the local prices so you won't get ripped of. They will try!
Besides visiting the Grand Palace and the famous temples of Bangkok, we simply enjoyed the street life, traditional food and party scene. One thing you should definitely do in Bangkok is visit a roof top bar. There are dozens but I was recommended one in Sukhumvit by a local friend called Above Eleven. They had fancy drinks, a covered area for short rain showers and an amazing view - even in the restrooms!
Bangkok was really great and I'm sure I'll be back for a stop over when traveling in Asia!
